When you have the heat on inside your home, you are probably careful that no one leaves a door or window open for a long time. You would hate to be wasting your money heating up a home that is leaking out the heated air and wasting your money. You could be doing a similar thing if you don’t have sufficient insulation. Insulation is just as important as having a good heating source, since you are unable to retain the heat with insufficient insulation.
The ability of insulation to prevent heat loss is measured by its R-value. When purchasing insulation, you will find its R-value listed, but that is not the only variable to take into consideration when insulating a home. Imperfections in your home will lessen the effectiveness of the insulation installed, so if there are any cracks or holes, you should make sure to patch them up before installing new insulation. Compressed or wet insulation will also be less effective.
